As June kicked in with an unpredictable general election, we can now turn our gaze and focus on the most popular season dedicated to weddings. This is indeed one of the busiest times for us florists but it is also an exciting period, because let’s face it, we simply love creating awesome wedding creations for all our clients!
Wedding flowers are kind of a big deal so make sure to do your homework well before deciding on which flowers you will opt for your special day. Your florist will be able to bring to life designs that execute your vision, even if you don’t know anything about flowers so you don’t need to worry about that! If you are experimental, you might want to break away from the traditional flower styles and be more adventurous.
Your florist should be able to give you a good brief of which flowers are in season and are most popular around your wedding date. Make sure to pick a color and wedding theme so your florist can come up with cutting-edge designs to complement your choice.
Select your wedding flowers based on a personal choice. Flowers should be chosen for a reason, not just the color. Perhaps a particular flower will evoke memories of your first date or special occasions. Also, think if you want the flowers to draw much attention or if you simply want them to blend with the overall style.
Bring along examples. Together with your florist, create a vision board which should include your preferred colour scheme, together with some pictures from magazines or websites such as Pinterest that indicate your preferences.
For brides, nothing beats an inspiring bouquet filled with fresh and exclusive fragrant flowers. The most popular wedding bouquets include roses, tulips, calla lilies, hydrangeas and peonies. This year’s trend focuses more on muted monochromatic bouquets and sees less multicoloured bouquets in bright colours. However there is no rule whatsoever and the final decision rests on the couple’s tastes and choices. Also, more couples are opting to include arches for their wedding especially if they have civil ceremonies. We are also witnessing an increase in the wedding décor including, shabby chic tables, lanterns, contemporary lights etc
We are also noticing a new trend of cake designs mostly by the introduction of the naked cakes which have become quite popular amongst the Maltese. Fewer oversized wedding cakes are being produced and this creates more opportunities and challenges to incorporate various flowers into cake structures. Fresh flowers are mostly used as cake toppers.
Family or reserved tables are becoming a must especially in Maltese weddings. For such tables, florists normally create centrepieces which are adequate for the dimension of such tables. One should always consider the height, by creating something which is neither too tall or too low so as to allow guests to see one another across the table. Normally, we suggest to opt for low designs which can fill up the table surface area, this is further complemented by a slim and transparent base. The most popular shapes include round, cascade and hand-tied. Round bouquet tend to be used for more formal weddings whilst hand-tied bouquets have a natural, simple look.
When you meet your florist you can discuss the number of arrangements needed for your wedding including, centrepieces for the reserved and bistro tables, bridesmaids’ or flower girls bouquets, standing arrangements, hanging arrangements, corsages etc. In this way, the florist will be in a position to help you budget well and quote accordingly.
“Mother” is undoubtedly the most beautiful and lovable word in all the existing languages. Our mother’s presence affects our entire life and she can never be replaced by anyone and anything.
Mother’s Day gives us the unique opportunity to celebrate just how our beloved mothers, sacrifice their lives for us every day of the year. Flowers are the most traditional way to show appreciation to all the moms in our lives and this tradition is kept every year. Flowers are truly the symbol of pure love, just like our mothers! In most countries, like Malta, Mother’s Day is celebrated during Spring time.
The traditional Mother’s Day flowers remain the Carnations; they are presented either in pink or white, the latter are normally worn as a respect for those mothers who are no longer with us.
Although Carnations are the popularly gifted flowers on Mother’s Day, a bouquet of mature blooming roses and spring flowers like Tulips and Daffodils are also bought on this day. We always strongly advise our customers to understand the true meaning of the flowers they choose to purchase for their mothers.
In this busy life we are living in, most of us will not find the time to go directly to the florist and buy the flowers themselves. If you know well the florist, you might probably call him and ask him to prepare a lovely bouquet based on his tastes and according to your budget. If not, you can always opt to order your bouquets online. (check out: www.alistairfloraldesign.com) for more info.
To help you choose the best flowers, below is a guide of the various types of combinations you may opt for.
We have always associated Roses with motherhood, making them an easy choice for Mother’s day. Did you know that pink roses represent grace and elegance, while yellow roses symbolize friendship and joy? Make sure to choose the colour that best represents your mum.
Another elegant choice are lilacs. Lilacs represent love in general, which also includes the love between the mother and her children, making these beautiful flowers a perfect choice on Mother’s Day.
Irises reflect affection and warmth. They come in a rainbow of colors, but white and blue irises tend to be the most popular on Mother’s Day.
Orchids are another popular choice for this special day. Every mother will love a bouquet of these exotic flowers on her special day.
Carnations come in Pink, red and white ones. A mix of them would create a perfect Mother’s Day bouquet.
Tulips are associated mostly with new life, charity and such flowers are always a popular option for Mother’s Day.
Remember that symbolism shouldn’t be the only factor when you’re choosing your Mother’s Day flowers. Always consider your mother’s favorite colors too!
And no matter what the choice of your present will be, make sure to add a beautiful message and present your gift with love!
